Our History

The Rotary Club of Makati Dasmariñas 

The Rotary Club of Makati Dasmariñas (RCMD) was officially chartered as the 80th club in District 3810 on December 14, 1994. We are now part of Rotary International District 3830.
 

Since 1994, we have led the efforts in building communities and serving the public in order to make the Philippines a better place.
 

Club membership grew over the years and we are proud to have over 70 club members to date, each one established and respected in the industries and professions they represent. We are considered by Rotary a "large club" and have the distinction of being the largest diverse club in our district.

Rotary International

Rotary International has an amazing history. We are a global movement that has an amazing 116 year history.

Our Motto: "Soar Above One's Self"

For 22 years, Rotary's guiding principles have been the foundation of our values: service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership. We have taken Rotary International's motto "Service Above Self" and adapted it for our club's philosophy. 

Our Mission

Within our sphere of influence, and as a part of Rotary International, our purpose is to be of service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our family of business, professional, and community leaders.

We are one with Rotary International in our object -- are to encourage the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • First: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

  • Second: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;

  • Third: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;

  • Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Our Avenues of Service

For years, Rotary’s commitment to "Service Above Self" has been channeled through its 5 Avenues of Service. These Avenues of Service form the foundation of our Club Activities.

  • Club Service focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving club is anchored by strong relationships and an active membership development plan;

  • Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society. Learn more in An Introduction to Vocational Service and the Code of Conduct;

  • International Service exemplifies our global reach in promoting peace and understanding. We support this service avenue by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects, seeking partners abroad, and more;

  • New Generations Service recognizes the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs such as Rotaract and Interact, recognizing achievements through Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and creating international understanding with Rotary Youth Exchange.

Our Diversity

We also recognize the value of diversity within our club. We are encouraged to assess those in our communities who are eligible for membership, under existing membership guidelines, and to endeavor to include the appropriate range of individuals in our club.

We believe a club that reflects its community with regard to professional and business classification, gender, age, religion, and ethnicity is a club with the key to its future.
 

The Four-Way Test

One of the most widely printed and quoted statements of business ethics in the world is the Rotary 4-Way Test.

It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy. Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties. He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives. The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising, and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy.

Herb Taylor became president of Rotary International in 1954 - 1955.

The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than 100 languages, and published in thousands of ways. It is our ethical guide for our actions and relationships -- both personal and professional. This non-partisan and non-sectarian test encourages us to ask the following questions:
