Fighting Disease

We educate and equip communities to stop the spread of life-threatening diseases like polio and malaria. We improve and expand access to low-cost and free health care in developing areas.

These are some of our programs and projects.

Mulat-Mata Cataract Surgery Program

Since 2008, the Mulat-Mata Project has been our flagship project. It aims to provide free cataract surgeries to indigent Filipinos – from farmers, informal settlers, and war veteran.

This initiative has evolved through the years. RCMD constructed an outpatient clinic in Quezon City in 2011 that provides free cataract surgeries for indigent patients every other month.

To date, the program has helped 15,798 individuals with eye problems. A total of 1,034 cataract surgeries and 268 minor surgeries of the eyes have brought clearer vision and better lives to our patients in need.

Mobile Mulat-Mata Eye Refraction Mission

Mulat-Mata Eye Refraction is one of our annual projects. In partnership with Transitions, this project aims to improve the sight of Filipinos nationwide through eye refraction activities for children and senior citizens.

Retinoblastoma Life-Saving
Treatment for Indigent Pediatric Cancer Patients

The second arm of our Alay-Buhay Project involves patients afflicted with Retinoblastoma. Retinoblastoma is a malignant condition in the eye that usually affects patients from 2 to 10 years old. Unlike any other childhood malignancies, Retinoblastoma, once diagnosed and treated correctly and early, has a good prognosis in terms of survival. In this program, we cover the complete chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment of the patients.

Indigent pediatric and adult patients (screened by the Heart Center of the Philippines) who qualified and passed the screening test for heart valve transplant surgery are then referred to us to cover the heart valves of the patients. Each heart valve cost amount PHP 54,000.00.

Alay sa Kalusugan Feeding and Vaccination Program

Our Alay Kalusugan Program works with Kabisig sa Kalahi Foundation to provide meals for unfortunate children for 120 days of the school year to help them become effective at school work / student life. The foundation works with DTI's Council for National Competitiveness as well as Mead Johnson (for milk, Lactum) and Unilever.

Through this program, we provide meals in school and we work with the mothers and help them prepare nutritious meals at home.

Insta Limb, New Life

RCMD partnered with a Japanese firm called "Insta-limb Solutions Philippines, Inc.” with the common purpose to give very inexpensive prosthesis to indigents. The prosthesis is state of the art and Japanese made using light weight, state of the art polycarbonate material with 3D printing “while you wait” for your orthosis at a fraction of the cost of a regular prosthesis. This service project is aptly called: New Limb, New Life.

Wash and Brush Project

In partnership with Smile Pilipinas Foundation, this WASH Project was implemented, aimed to teach public school students about proper oral hygiene and washing of hands for the prevention of the spread of disease. We contract to build wash and brush stations in elementary schools and conduct orientations to school children on the proper way to care for and brush their teeth and the importance of washing their hands.

Support for St Scholastica’s Mission Hospital

St. Scholastica’s Hospital, located in Pambujan, Northern Samar, serves the needs of the locals. The challenges they face include the lack of doctors, nurses, and other medical staff, the stead supply of medicines and central supplies, and hospital equipment. As another new program, we have begun looking into partnership with pharmaceutical companies and medical schools to address the steady supply of medicines and the lack of medical staff.
